Reports of a violent assault involving a knife brought Lower Paxton police to the 300 block of Ring Neck Drive in Harrisburg on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024. While officers were en route, Dauphin County Dispatch received word that the victim was already on the way to UPMC Osteopathic hospital, where medical staff documented multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma to the victim’s head, neck, and body, according to police.
Before losing consciousness, the victim reportedly identified the attacker as 24-year-old Dionte Payne. Roughly an hour later, Harrisburg police located Payne and took him into custody on one court of attempted homicide and two counts of aggravated assault.
Payne's preliminary arraignment was held the same day, before Magisterial District Judge Margerum, who denied bail, resulting in Payne’s transfer to Dauphin County Prison.
His preliminary hearing is set before Magisterial District Judge William C. Wenner at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3, according to his latest court docket.
Payne has other active cases for drug and trafic related offenses and an illegal firearm charge, court records show. He previously pleaded guilty for failing to stop at a red light in Cumberland County.
Police have not yet released additional details about the victim's condition.
